ACSI Awards 2026: Catalonia’s Campsites Steal the Show in Europe

When nearly 100,000 campers from across Europe cast their votes for the best campsites on the continent, Catalonia keeps coming out on top. The ACSI Awards 2026 have once again confirmed what seasoned travellers already know: Catalonia is home to some of the finest camping experiences in Europe.

This year, campsites in Catalonia area claimed eight out of nine award categories — making Catalonia the region with the highest concentration of ACSI recognitions in Spain, and one of the most decorated in all of Europe.

What Are the ACSI Awards?

The ACSI Awards are prestigious international accolades granted by ACSI, a Dutch organisation with decades of expertise in campsite inspection and promotion across Europe. What sets these awards apart is their democratic foundation: the winners are chosen entirely by campers themselves, based on their real experiences on-site.

For the 2026 edition, voting took place between September 2025 and January 2026, drawing participation from close to 100,000 users throughout Europe. Winning an ACSI Award means earning the genuine trust of tens of thousands of fellow travellers.

Catalonia’s Award-Winning Campsites at ACSI Awards 2026

The awards ceremony was held as part of the 2nd Catalan Camping Congress, at the Castell de Ciutat in La Seu d’Urgell — marking the first time the ACSI Awards were presented in Catalonia. These were the big winners from the Tarragona region:

🏆 Best campsite: Camping La Ballena Alegre Costa Brava

The best campsite in Europe according to campers is Catalan. La Ballena Alegre Costa Brava took home the top award of the 2026 edition, claiming the number one spot on the continent in the overall ratings from visitors.

🏆 Best Sanitary Facilities: Playa Montroig Camping Resort

A benchmark for quality along the Tarragona coastline, Playa Montroig was recognised for its outstanding sanitary installations — one of the most important factors for campers choosing a destination.

🏆 Best Hiking Campsite: Càmping Ametlla

For those who travel with walking boots firmly on, Càmping Ametlla offers the ideal blend of natural surroundings and comfortable facilities. A well-deserved nod to one of the region’s most nature-focused sites.

🏆 Most Beautiful Campsite Pool: Camping & Resort Sangulí Salou

Salou is synonymous with sunshine and fun, and Sangulí’s pool is a big reason why. Voted the most beautiful campsite pool in Europe by thousands of campers, it’s as spectacular as it sounds.

🏆 Best small campsite with great charm: Camping Can Coromines

You don’t have to be big to be one of the best. Camping Can Coromines won the category that recognises those sites which, despite their smaller size, deliver an exceptional and memorable experience.

🏆 Best location: Camping Illa Mateua

For many campers, setting is everything — and Camping Illa Mateua has won over Europe with a privileged location that has captivated tens of thousands of visitors.

🏆 Most Dog-Friendly Campsite: Càmping Estanyet

Travelling with a four-legged companion? Càmping Estanyet has made it its mission to welcome dogs as warmly as their owners, earning this title from pet-loving campers across the continent.

🏆 Most Fun Campsite for Kids: Càmping Stel

Families with children know that choosing the right campsite makes or breaks a holiday. Càmping Stel has been voted the most fun campsite for kids in Spain — a favourite among European families looking for action-packed breaks.

Why Catalonia Is a European Camping Destination Like No Other

Behind every award is a consistent commitment from campsite owners to invest in facilities, sustainability and innovation. As Joan Estrada, president of the Costa Daurada and Terres de l’Ebre Camping Association, put it: winning more than half the categories confirms that we are the quality benchmark for camping in Spain and one of the top destinations in Europe.

The 2026 ceremony also made history: for the first time ever, the ACSI Awards were presented in Catalonia — a symbolic milestone that reflects the region’s growing importance on the European camping map.
